I've never posted my CV here because I am not available for work right at this instant. But let's say I am entertaining offers of future employment.

Lately I have had cause to be really pissed off at those who have hijacked the Islamic Religion. Let's look at a couple ahadith that might shed some light on what Islam is supposed to be about.

  • The Companions performed their ablutions in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from the water left over by a pagan woman. Both he and they drank from that water. [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) ate with a Jew who invited him to join him in eating a meal. Likewise, he and his Companions ate from the food of a Jewish woman in Khaybar. It is obvious that their food was prepared and served on their own dishes. This is clear proof that eating from their dishes is permissible without it even being disliked (I didn't find an isnad for this hadith, but I have seen it before many times).
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) and some companions chanced upon a pagan woman in the open country. One of the companions said : "Take off her clothes and let's search her for messages."

The Prophet said : "No, you will do no such thing. Only Allah (sat) knows why he has placed her here in your path.

    (paraphrased)

It's hard to see how one could get from the respectful attitude of the Prophet to the things we have lately seen. And no - no political situation in the world justifies the violence. Islam never authorized collective punishment or the killing of non-combatants.

Because you said I could have one. Because I have been good.
Because I have been patient, and eaten my goddamn vegetables.
Because I maintained some kind of faith in things, even though it's rarely paid off, and when it does pay off it's because I have been nagging.

For the moment, this is just a bunch of crap that I threw up online.

Locally grown reading material

  • This isn't a blog: I seek neither self-justification, nor vindication, nor the sympathy of strangers.
  • Nonetheless you can read some of my Poetry and Writings on the site.
  • A Righteous Man - where one tries to explain the rise and fall of cultures as a function of men's fashions for facial hair
  • I am not a "brony", but I am totally supportive of the idea of boys appreciating television aimed at girls as well as anything else that messes with gender boundaries. Here is a page of resources for Bronies.

External Links

Some links relating to technology. Not that I care.

First, programming...

  • I found a great introduction to Node.js in Mixu's Node Book - A book about using Node.js. Never stop learning.
  • Of course I use perl a great deal. The Perl.ORG Online Library has great resources for someone who hasn't yet learned perl, or who wants to move on to the next level.
  • Finally, my favorite: Pike. It's something like C with the better parts of Objective-C minus the bloat, add on closures, lambdas and other useful features. Unfortunately, it's largely neglected by programmers even though the Roxen server written entirely in Pike, was for quite a while the fastest in existence.

Here you can find my hardware recommendations. I don't get paid by any of these people, I just use their stuff.
